Bootblacks have always been part of leather and fetish culture. However, bootblacking is about more than just keeping boots and other gear in good shape. It is also about care, connection, and giving back to the community.
At Beyond Darklands, this rich culture gets to shine. Founded in 2019, the Bootblack Europe contest celebrates the community at the heart of leather. Contestants must demonstrate their leadership skills, showcase their craft, and share their passion in front of a jury.
The contest is also a hands-on experience for contestants and the public alike. Take a seat, let a contestant work their magic on your gear, and leave the stand looking shiny — inside and out.
In 2027, Bootblack Europe is produced for the first time by Emmet, Bootblack Europe 2025, and Shkody, Mr. Fetish Germany 2026. Want to get in touch? info@bbe-contest.org
We proudly welcome contestants of all genders, sexualities and backgrounds from across the continent. As Bootblack Europe you will represent our community on an international stage for a year. If you are excited to share your knowledge, inspire new bootblacks, and help strengthen the craft of bootblacking in Europe, you might just be the person to take on the title. Are you ready to shine?
Over two days, contestants take part in a packed program that includes stand time, a technical boot and skills assessment, a personal interview, and a stage round with an introduction of the candidates and a surprise challenge. A panel of judges will assess the contestants, but the community will also have a say by voting for their favorite candidate.
We will kick off the experience with a welcome dinner on Thursday evening. The contest will run from Friday morning to Saturday evening, when the new Bootblack Europe 2027 will be announced on the Beyond Darklands main stage.

Treat yourself with some expert gear care at the bootblack station and get shiny! The bootblack station is open from Friday to Sunday during the daytime festival.
Tipping is a long-standing tradition that recognizes the time, skill and personal investment involved. A suggested minimum of €10 per serviced item is recommended, though generosity is always appreciated.
We are committed to making the bootblack station accessible for both bootblacks and clients.
